Circumstances:

The aircraft was conducting a private operation at South Grafton Airport, utilising a grass runway for landing. During the approach and touchdown, the pilot misjudged the runway surface, and the aircraft’s propeller struck the ground.

Following the propeller strike, the de Havilland DH-82A nosed over and came to rest inverted on the grass strip. Emergency responders attended the scene. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was not injured.

The Tiger Moth sustained substantial damage in the occurrence. The ATSB was notified and documented the event as part of its aviation occurrence reporting processes.
