Circumstances:

On March 29, 2025, a Robinson R22 helicopter was involved in an accident during aerial mustering operations approximately 56 kilometers northeast of Roma Aerodrome in Queensland, Australia. During manoeuvring, the aircraft collided with a fence and subsequently became partially submerged in floodwater.

The helicopter sustained substantial damage, though no fatalities or injuries were reported. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating the incident to determine the cause of the collision and assess contributing factors, such as environmental conditions or operational challenges related to the aerial mustering activity.

Aerial mustering operations often involve low-altitude flight in challenging terrain, which can increase the risk of collisions with obstacles such as fences or vegetation. The ATSB’s findings may highlight safety recommendations for similar operations in flood-affected areas.
