Circumstances:

A severe incident occurred on 10 November 2023 involving a Cessna 421C Golden Eagle II, which was forced to ditch into the Coral Sea after an engine failure. The aircraft, registered to Davies Aviation Pty Ltd and marked VH-VPY, was undertaking a ferry flight to Pago Pago when it lost one engine and could not sustain altitude. Both the pilot and passenger were rescued unharmed before the aircraft sank approximately 30NM east of Mooloolaba, following a coordinated search and rescue effort.
