Circumstances:
On 20th October 2023, a Cessna 208 Supervan, operated by Skydive Australia, was forced to make an emergency landing near Barwon Heads Airport in Victoria after experiencing engine failure shortly after takeoff. While ascending to approximately 600 feet, the engine lost power, prompting the pilot to descend over Lake Connewarre and execute a forced landing in a paddock near the lake’s shore. The plane’s main gear broke off, causing the aircraft to skid to a halt. Five of the seventeen occupants onboard sustained minor injuries, among them being Frankston MP Labor MP for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke. Preliminary reports suggest engine malfunction as a possible cause, but the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
