Circumstances:

On July 14, 2025, a Bell 206 helicopter was involved in a fatal accident near Lake Evella Aerodrome in northeast Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. The aircraft, carrying two occupants on a non-scheduled charter flight, struck a bird during the cruise phase of flight.
The impact caused the bird to fatally strike the 54-year-old male passenger. The pilot, who was uninjured, conducted a forced landing near the Lake Evella airstrip.

Emergency services, including Northern Territory Police and St John Ambulance paramedics, responded to the scene and confirmed the passenger’s death. Authorities have commenced an investigation, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. NT WorkSafe and the ATSB were notified of the incident.

This tragic occurrence highlights the rare but serious risk posed by birdstrikes in low-level operations over remote areas.
