On 7th September 2023, Malaysia Airlines flight MH128 faced a runway overrun during its takeoff from Melbourne-Tullamarine Airport’s temporarily shortened runway 34. The Airbus A330-323, after rotating past the temporarily displaced threshold, caused a jet blast affecting individuals and objects in the work area. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. This incident was one of two similar incidents that month, prompting Melbourne Airport to halt works requiring a displaced threshold on runway 16/34.
