Incident Overview
A fatal two-car crash occurred on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at approximately 2:40 am on Newcastle Road, near North Lambton, Newcastle, resulting in the death of a woman and her unborn child.

NSW Police allege a white Holden Commodore sedan was being driven dangerously before colliding with a Hyundai sedan. The driver of the Commodore, believed to be a 19-year-old man, fled the scene prior to police arrival.

A 55-year-old woman, a passenger in the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 28-year-old woman who was 25 weeks pregnant, was transported to John Hunter Hospital with leg injuries and later lost her unborn child.

Two teenage girls — aged 15 and 17 — were found in the rear of the Commodore and were taken to hospital under police guard.

Police have launched a critical incident investigation and are searching for both the driver and the vehicle’s registered owner, a 17-year-old girl.

“Police are actively searching for that man now.” — Acting Assistant Commissioner Paul Dunstan
