Incident Overview
A three-year-old girl has died following a serious multi-vehicle traffic crash at Banya on the Sunshine Coast earlier this month. The child sustained critical head injuries when a truck collided with multiple vehicles at a busy intersection in the Aura estate. She was airlifted to hospital but passed away days later. Her one-year-old sister remains in a critical condition as police continue their investigation.

Injuries/Fatalities

  • Fatalities:
    • Ineza King, 3 — rear passenger in the Haval station wagon; died in hospital after sustaining critical head injuries.
  • Critical/Serious Injuries:
    • Itahe King, 1 — rear passenger in the Haval station wagon; remains in a critical condition at Queensland Children’s Hospital.
  • Other Injuries:
    • Five adults — including the 37-year-old female driver of the Haval and the 52-year-old male truck driver; transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency Response

  • Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service and rescue crews attended the crash scene.
  • Both children were airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.
  • Other injured occupants were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Police Investigation
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

  • Police allege the Mitsubishi Fuso truck struck the rear of multiple vehicles stopped in traffic.
  • Investigators are examining whether a possible medical episode involving the truck driver contributed to the collision.
  • No charges have been laid.

The death of the young child has deeply affected the Banya and Sunshine Coast communities. Tributes have flowed for the toddler, described by her family as kind, energetic and full of life, while community members and emergency services have been thanked for their support following the tragedy.
