Incident Overview
Police have charged a man in connection with an alleged hit-and-run crash in Coolangatta that seriously injured two teenage girls earlier this month. The incident occurred on Marine Parade when a van struck an e-bike travelling in the bicycle lane before leaving the scene and crossing into New South Wales. Both girls sustained serious injuries. The accused is due to appear in court today.

    • Two 15-year-old girls — e-bike rider and passenger; sustained serious injuries.

Emergency Response

  • Emergency services attended Marine Parade following reports of an e-bike crash.
  • The van allegedly failed to stop and left the scene, travelling into NSW.
  • Both injured girls were transported to hospital for treatment.

Police Investigation
Police allege the driver failed to remain at the scene and render assistance.

  • A 40-year-old Urangan man attended Coolangatta Police Station on 23 January and was charged.
  • Charges include dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.
  • Additional charges include failing to remain at the scene and render assistance, and driving while disqualified.
