Incident Overview
A 24-year-old man has been charged following a fatal UTV (utility terrain vehicle) crash that occurred at Toolakea Beach, near Townsville, in 2024. The man is accused of operating the vehicle while over the legal alcohol limit, unregistered, and uninsured. The crash resulted in the death of a man at the scene.

The accused is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on July 11, 2025.

A 54-year-old man has also previously been charged in relation to the incident, having allegedly permitted the use of an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

Queensland Police have reiterated that beaches in Queensland are classified as roads under transport legislation, and therefore, vehicles such as UTVs, quad bikes, and motorbikes must be registered and insured if used on them.
