A man has been charged following a fatal traffic crash in East Toowoomba on March 25.

Police will allege the 20-year-old South Toowoomba man was driving a blue 2007 Ford Fairmont northbound on Mackenzie Street, when it left the road and crashed into a tree, claiming the life of an 18-year-old East Toowoomba female passenger.

The driver sustained injuries during the collision and has since been released from hospital.

A second passenger, an 18-year-old East Toowoomba woman, was transported to hospital for minor injuries only.

Following an extensive Forensic Crash Unit investigation, the man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected, driving under the influence and unlicenced driving.

He was granted police bail ahead of his appearance in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday July 4.
