Incident Overview
Two people have died following a horrific head-on crash in Templestowe, a northeastern suburb of Melbourne. The collision occurred at approximately 9:25 am on Monday, July 1, 2025, on Fitzsimons Lane. A silver SUV is believed to have crossed onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a hatchback, killing both occupants. A third vehicle was also involved but its occupants were unharmed. The driver of the silver SUV is under police guard in hospital.

- Fatalities:
- Both occupants of the hatchback sustained life-threatening injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. They have yet to be formally identified.
- Other Injuries:
- The 54-year-old female driver of the silver SUV was hospitalised with minor injuries and is currently under police guard.
- No injuries were reported from the grey SUV.
Emergency Response
Multiple emergency services attended the scene. The crash caused significant disruption to morning traffic. Paramedics confirmed both hatchback occupants were deceased on arrival. The SUV driver was transported to hospital for treatment and remains under police guard.
Investigation
Victoria Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Key points under examination include:

- The speed and road conditions at the time of the collision

A report will be prepared for the coroner. The 54-year-old woman remains a person of interest.
