Incident Overview
Two men were critically injured in a serious two-vehicle crash on the D’Aguilar Highway at Colinton in Queensland’s Somerset Region on Thursday night. A Ford Falcon sedan and a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV collided near Nurinda Road around 7:00 pm. Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, were airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with life-threatening and serious injuries.

  • Hyundai Santa Fe SUV – driven by a 38-year-old man from Hodgleigh

Injuries/Fatalities

    • No fatalities reported at the time of release.
  • Serious Injuries:
    • The 19-year-old Ford driver sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
    • The 38-year-old Hyundai driver sustained serious injuries and was also airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Emergency Response
Emergency services arrived promptly on scene following the crash. Due to the severity of injuries, both drivers were transported via air ambulance to Sunshine Coast University Hospital. The crash site was secured for investigation, and traffic diversions were likely put in place.

Investigation
The Forensic Crash Unit of the Queensland Police Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities are working to determine:

  • The movements and speed of both vehicles prior to the impact
  • Environmental and road conditions on the D’Aguilar Highway at the time
  • Any potential driver behaviours contributing to the crash, including fatigue or distraction

Police have issued reference number QP2501128791 for the ongoing investigation.

Community Impact
The crash has raised safety concerns along the D’Aguilar Highway, a key regional route. Queensland Police have reiterated the importance of avoiding the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviours — speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction — in order to reduce serious collisions on regional roads.
