Incident Overview
A serious truck crash occurred at Yandina on the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday morning, September 23, 2025. At around 10:30 am, a B-double truck travelling on Yandina Coolum Road bridge crashed off the bridge and down an embankment onto the Bruce Highway. The truck’s wreckage spanned the length of the embankment. The driver, a man in his 50s, was trapped inside the cab until fire crews cut him free at around 12:05 pm. He is being treated for suspected leg and pelvic injuries and is expected to be transported to hospital.

Emergency Response

  • Queensland Fire Department used cutting gear to access the damaged cab and free the driver after more than an hour trapped.
  • Paramedics treated the driver at the scene before transporting him to hospital.
  • Police established diversions with Bruce Highway northbound closed and detours at the Yandina Coolum Road off-ramp and on-ramp.

Police Investigation
Queensland Police are examining:

  • The cause of the B-double leaving the roadway and plunging off the Yandina Coolum Road bridge.
  • Whether speed, mechanical failure, or driver fatigue contributed to the crash.
  • Traffic management and safety conditions on the bridge and Bruce Highway at the time of the incident.

Community Impact
The crash caused significant disruption to Sunshine Coast traffic, with northbound Bruce Highway traffic banked up for approximately three kilometres. Emergency service vehicles blocked access to the bridge while crews worked at the scene. Police urged motorists to avoid the area and expect long delays.
