Incident Overview

On Friday, November 1, 2024, a 39-year-old truck driver tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on the Kwinana Freeway in Perth’s southern suburbs. The crash led to the closure of a section of the freeway and the suspension of train services on the Mandurah line.

Location and Time

The crash occurred around 8:50 am on the Kwinana Freeway southbound, south of Rowley Road in Wandi, Perth.

Vehicles Involved

The crash involved a single vehicle, a yellow Isuzu truck.

Crash Description

The Isuzu truck rolled and crashed through a freeway barrier, coming to rest beside the railway tracks, facing oncoming traffic. The exact cause of the rollover is under investigation.

Injuries/Fatalities

Tragically, the 39-year-old male truck driver died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Emergency Response

Emergency services, including police and St John WA paramedics, responded to the scene. Despite their efforts, the driver could not be saved. Major Crash detectives are investigating the incident.

Investigation

Major Crash detectives are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. They have appealed to witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward with information.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.

Community Impact

The crash caused significant disruption to traffic and public transport. Southbound lanes of the Kwinana Freeway between Rowley Road and Anketell Road were closed for several hours, causing major delays. Train services on the Mandurah line between Cockburn Central and Rockingham were also canceled for much of the day, with replacement buses deployed to transport passengers. While train services have resumed, Transperth advised that they may not be running to the regular schedule.
