A 65-year-old Lobethal man suffered critical injuries after a cement mixer rolled down an embankment on the Stott Highway at Keyneton, near the Barossa region of South Australia, on Monday morning, 18 August 2025.

Crash Description
Emergency services were called after the cement mixer left the road and rolled down an embankment. Crews from Fire and Rescue, SES, and paramedics worked for hours to cut the driver free from the crushed truck. He was airlifted by MedSTAR helicopter to hospital for urgent treatment.
Witnesses reported that the Keyneton area is known for its steep hills and deep valleys, with locals describing the driver as “lucky to be alive” given the terrain.
Road and Traffic Impacts
The crash caused significant delays along the Stott Highway. Police urged motorists to avoid the area for several hours while recovery and investigative operations were undertaken.
Investigation
South Australia Police Major Crash investigators are examining whether mechanical failure contributed to the incident. Heidelberg Materials, the driver’s employer, confirmed one of their vehicles was involved and stated they are cooperating with authorities.
Witnesses/Appeals
Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or who may have witnessed the crash to come forward to assist with investigations.
