Three 19-year-old friends were tragically killed in a horror head-on collision on the Mackay Ring Road at Glenella. The crash occurred when their Mazda 2 collided with a Great Wall Cannon while overtaking a semi-trailer in heavy fog. The incident also involved a fourth vehicle that swerved to avoid the wreck.

  • Fatalities:
    • T-Jay Petrass, 19 – deceased at the scene
    • Liam Doumergue, 19 – deceased at the scene
    • Ellie Cunnington, 19 – deceased at the scene
  • Serious Injuries:
    • 28-year-old male driver of the Great Wall Cannon – transported to Mackay Base Hospital in serious condition
  • No Injuries:
    • 68-year-old driver of the semi-trailer
    • Driver of the Isuzu D-Max (no collision, avoided impact)

Emergency Response

  • Emergency services responded promptly to the scene near Glenella on Mackay Ring Road.
  • The teens were declared deceased at the scene. One other person was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Investigation
Queensland Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision, including:

  • Whether the Mazda 2 was overtaking at the time of impact
  • The potential role of heavy fog in reducing visibility
  • The presence of multiple vehicles and evasive actions taken by others involved
