Incident Overview
Three people have died and one person remains in a critical condition following a devastating crash between two SUVs on Bolinda-Darraweit Road in Bolinda, about 55km north-west of Melbourne. The incident occurred around 7:20 am on Sunday, June 30, 2025. All deceased were from the same vehicle and believed to be members of the same family. The crash occurred during a deadly weekend on Victorian roads, bringing the state’s annual road toll to 156 lives lost.

  • SUV 1 – carrying four occupants (three deceased, one critically injured)
  • SUV 2 – sole occupant, transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Injuries/Fatalities

  • Fatality:
    • Three people from one SUV died at the scene. Formal identification is pending but all are believed to be family members.
  • Serious Injuries:
    • A fourth occupant from the same SUV was airlifted to hospital in critical condition.
  • Other Injuries:
    • The driver of the second SUV was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency Response
Multiple emergency service units responded to the crash, including police, ambulance, air ambulance, and SES crews. Debris was scattered across the roadway, and a deceased animal was also found at the scene. The crash site was closed off for several hours as forensic crash investigators examined the scene.

Investigation
Victoria Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit is leading the inquiry. Investigators are examining:

  • Whether a deceased animal on the roadside contributed to the crash
  • Evidence suggesting one vehicle veered into oncoming traffic
  • Speed, distraction, or inattention as contributing factors

A report will be prepared for the coroner. Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Community Impact
The crash has shocked the local Bolinda and broader Macedon Ranges communities. It occurred during the start of the Victorian school holidays, prompting police to urge all motorists—especially in rural areas—to drive cautiously and to conditions. The state’s road toll has now reached 156 deaths, 15 higher than the same time last year.
