Incident Overview
On Friday morning, September 27, 2024, at approximately 8:45 AM, a serious crash occurred at the intersection of Wonga Road and Delaney Road in Warranwood, Melbourne. An allegedly stolen Toyota Camry, carrying five teenagers, collided with a Lexus SUV.
Details of the Crash
Following the crash, four teenage boys fled the scene, leaving behind a 15-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries. The girl was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The occupants of the Lexus SUV were not injured.
Arrest and Charges
Police quickly located and arrested the four teenage boys who had fled the scene. They were found a short distance from the crash site. The Toyota Camry was confirmed to have been stolen from Flora Hill on September 25th.
Two 13-year-old boys were released pending summons. A 17-year-old boy, alleged to have been the driver of the stolen vehicle, was charged with multiple offenses, including dangerous driving causing serious injury, theft of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon, and failing to assist at an accident. A 16-year-old boy was also charged with theft of a motor vehicle and failing to assist at an accident. The two older teens will appear in a children’s court at a later date.
