Incident Overview
A 16-year-old male was hospitalised following a head-on collision between an electric scooter and a car on Logan Road in Underwood on Wednesday evening. The teenager was allegedly riding the e-scooter on the wrong side of the road when he collided with a white Kia being driven by a learner driver about 10.30pm. The boy was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition with chest and abdominal injuries. The learner driver, who was returning home at the time of the incident, was assessed by paramedics and found to be uninjured.

Police Investigation
Queensland Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision. The investigation is examining the allegation that the e-scooter was being ridden on the incorrect side of the road at the time of impact.

Community Impact
The incident occurred ahead of a state-wide law change scheduled for 1 July 2026, which will ban children under 16 from riding e-bikes and e-scooters in Queensland. The legislative changes follow 14 fatalities in e-mobility incidents across the state in 2025. Under the new laws, riders will be required to hold a valid learner’s permit or licence, and parents who supply devices to underage children may face fines.
