Crash Description
The Nissan SUV, driven by a 21-year-old woman, allegedly mounted the footpath and collided with the Honda motorcycle, which was carrying two people. The impact of the crash caused serious injuries to the 16-year-old passenger on the motorcycle.
Injuries
The 16-year-old male passenger on the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in critical condition. The motorcyclist who was driving the motorcycle fled the scene before emergency services arrived. The 21-year-old female driver of the Nissan SUV was not injured.
Emergency Response
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and a rescue helicopter, attended the scene. The teenager was trapped under the SUV and had to be freed before being treated by paramedics and airlifted to the hospital.
Investigation and Charges
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are working to identify the motorcycle rider who fled the scene. The driver of the Nissan SUV was arrested at the scene and later charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm. Her license has been suspended.
Court Appearance
The driver of the SUV was granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Dubbo Local Court on Monday, December 30, 2024.
