Introduction
The motorcyclist killed in a devastating hit-and-run crash in Melbourne’s north on Sunday has been identified as a 19-year-old from Wollert. The incident, which involved an allegedly stolen BMW, has left the community in shock and mourning.
Crash Overview
The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Bell Street and Victoria Street in Preston around 12:40 AM on August 11th, 2024. The victim was riding his motorcycle when it was struck by a stolen BMW.
Tragedy and Investigation
Despite the efforts of first responders, the motorcyclist tragically died at the scene. Police allege the BMW involved in the crash was stolen from a Pascoe Vale South property shortly before the collision. CCTV footage shows two occupants fleeing the scene. A 16-year-old boy, believed to be a passenger, was arrested and later released pending further inquiries. The driver remains at large.
Community Mourning and Support
The victim’s colleagues at Oceania Concrete Pumping, where he worked as a concrete pumper, have expressed their grief and launched a fundraiser to support his family. His former boss described him as “very loved” and expressed condolences to the family.

It is believed that the victim’s partner was traveling alongside him in a car and witnessed the tragic crash. Nearby residents reported hearing a woman screaming for help after the collision. The Premier offered her condolences to the family and acknowledged the devastating impact of the incident.
