Incident Overview

A 14-year-old boy is facing serious charges after a stolen car he was allegedly driving crashed into a motorcycle, killing the rider. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, near Gunnedah in northern New South Wales, and involved a police pursuit that began with a break-and-enter at a home in Moree around 7:15 am, where a white ute was stolen.

Incident Description

The stolen ute was involved in several police pursuits in the Moree area before being spotted again near Gunnedah. During a pursuit on the Kamilaroi Highway, the ute collided with a motorcycle, fatally injuring the 42-year-old male rider from Narrabri. A second pursuit ensued on the Oxley Highway, ending with the ute crashing near Carroll. Three teenage boys were arrested while allegedly attempting to flee the scene.

Injuries/Fatalities and Charges

The 42-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene. The three teenagers in the ute were not injured. The 14-year-old boy who was allegedly driving faces 15 charges, including aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, driving at excessive speed, and failing to stop and assist. The other two boys have been charged with offenses related to the break-in and vehicle theft.

Court Appearance and Investigation

All three boys were refused bail and appeared in a children’s court on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. A critical incident investigation team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the police pursuit.
