A second person has died following a devastating crash in Wantirna South, Melbourne, where a car driven by a 91-year-old woman mounted the footpath and struck a family of three. A 59-year-old woman died at the scene, and on Saturday, July 12, her 60-year-old husband succumbed to life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. Their two-year-old grandson survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency Response
Emergency services responded promptly. Fire, ambulance, and police attended the scene. The crash occurred near a park, where the vehicle came to rest after travelling approximately 200 metres post-impact. A crime scene was established.
Investigation
Victoria Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit is actively investigating. Key focus areas include:
- Driver capacity and potential loss of control on the downhill section of Coleman Road
- Vehicle mechanics and external factors contributing to the incident
- Whether licensing and driver testing for elderly individuals should be revisited
A full report will be prepared for the Coroner. Reference has been made to the crash contributing to a concerning spike in road trauma in Victoria, with 14 deaths recorded in seven days.
