Incident Overview
Three schoolgirls narrowly escaped with their lives after being struck by a fishtailing car in Bellbird Park, Ipswich. The frightening incident occurred as they were walking home from school, with CCTV capturing the moment a white Ford Falcon lost control, ploughed onto the footpath, and hit the girls.

  • Driver: Teenage male, red P-plate driver, with two friends in the vehicle
  • Pedestrians: Three girls, including sisters Kiarrah and Delilah Buttery, and their friend

Injuries

  • One girl suffered minor injuries, including a sore arm.
  • The other two girls were physically unharmed but left traumatised by the incident.
  • No injuries were reported for the driver or passengers of the Ford Falcon.

Crash Description
CCTV shows the Ford Falcon fishtailing at speed, before careening off the road and mounting the footpath, hitting the three girls before slamming into a fence and tree. Witnesses described screeching tyres and a mother’s horrified screams, “You just hit my daughter!” Moments later, emergency services were called to the scene.

Witness Accounts

  • Jade Newton, mother of two of the girls, said she saw the car lose control just as she realised her daughters were in its path.
  • Her daughter Kiarrah recalled: “All I could see was the car coming towards us. My first instinct was to push my friend out of the way.”
  • Younger sister Delilah, despite being struck, expressed concern for the teenage driver, saying she worried her mother might lash out at him and didn’t want him punished too harshly.

Police and Investigation
Queensland Police confirmed a teenage boy with a provisional licence was driving the car. Investigations are ongoing, with early assessments suggesting reckless driving may have been a factor.
