A heartbreaking single-vehicle crash in Salt Ash, near Newcastle, has left one teenager dead and three others injured. The young driver, a learner, allegedly returned a positive breath test at the scene.

Salt Ash Crash Overview
The tragic incident unfolded around 10:45 pm on Friday on Lemon Tree Passage Road in Salt Ash. A white Ford Falcon sedan carrying five teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

Tragic Loss and Investigation
The 16-year-old boy, described by his family as a “beautiful,” “warm and loving” young man, tragically died on the way to the hospital. Three other teenagers, aged 14 and two 17-year-olds, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

Alleged DUI and Learner Driver
The 17-year-old driver, a learner, allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test and was taken for mandatory testing. Inspector Fatih Samsa from Port Stephens-Manning Highway Patrol confirmed that the driver was not accompanied by a licensed supervising driver, as required by law.

Community Mourning and Safety Concerns
The Salt Ash community is grieving the loss of the young victim. The boy’s father, aunt, and cousin visited the crash site, devastated by the tragedy. Inspector Samsa urged families and young drivers to prioritize road safety, particularly during the school holidays when more inexperienced drivers are on the roads.
