A 14-year-old Townsville boy suffered life-altering injuries after crashing an off-road motorbike while riding on the Salt Flats near Bushland Beach in Far North Queensland. He was critically injured and later underwent extensive hospital treatment and rehabilitation.

    • 14-year-old boy, Townsville (rider) — critically injured with a crushed spinal cord, internal injuries, five broken ribs, collapsed lungs and a fractured femur; underwent emergency surgery and later rehabilitation, and is now paraplegic.

Emergency Response

  • Queensland Police and paramedics attended, with first responders providing first aid and stabilising the rider at the scene before transport.
  • He was taken to Townsville Hospital, spent seven days in ICU, then was transferred by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane for ongoing recovery and rehabilitation.
  • Road closures and diversions were not reported.

Police Investigation
The crash was described by the rider and family as a “freak accident” while riding on the Salt Flats; no further investigative findings were reported.
