Incident Overview

Ruby-Storm Kayrooz, 12, was critically injured while riding an e-scooter on the footpath of Main Rd in Maroochydore, Queensland, on her way to school last Wednesday. She was struck by a car reversing out of a driveway and suffered a brain injury and collapsed lungs.

Mother’s Plea

Ruby-Storm’s mother, Rebecca Cronan, is urging parents not to allow their children to ride e-scooters. She regrets buying one for her daughter and believes the accident could have been prevented.

Helmet Saves Life

Cronan credits Ruby-Storm’s helmet with saving her life. The helmet was significantly damaged in the crash, but Ruby-Storm is now recovering in the hospital and is able to talk and walk.

Investigation

The 21-year-old woman who was driving the car has been interviewed by police but has not been charged. The investigation is ongoing.

Conclusion

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of e-scooters, especially for young riders. Parents are urged to consider the risks before allowing their children to use these devices.
