Incident Overview
A 76-year-old man has died following a serious three-vehicle crash in Larapinta on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The incident occurred around 12:00 pm on Johnson Road when a white Kia Seltos collided with a white Renault van and a MG ZST. The man, a passenger in the Kia, was initially transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in serious condition but later succumbed to his injuries. The 77-year-old woman driving the Kia remains in hospital. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

  • White Kia Seltos – travelling westbound; collided with two other vehicles
  • White Renault van – travelling westbound; minor injuries reported
  • MG ZST – also westbound; minor injuries reported

Injuries/Fatalities

  • Fatality:
    • The 76-year-old male passenger of the Kia Seltos, from Forest Lakes, died in hospital on July 17 due to injuries sustained in the crash.
  • Serious Injuries:
    • The 77-year-old female driver of the Kia Seltos remains in hospital.
  • Other Injuries:
    • The 25-year-old female driver of the MG ZST and the 25-year-old male driver of the Renault van sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Emergency Response
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. All four individuals were transported to hospital. Johnson Road was partially closed for crash scene examination and cleanup.

Investigation
The Forensic Crash Unit continues to investigate the crash. Focus areas include:

  • The cause of the Kia Seltos losing control and crossing into the path of the other vehicles
  • Driver health, speed, road conditions, and possible medical episodes
  • Witness accounts and dashcam or CCTV footage

The fatality has deepened concern among residents near the Johnson Road corridor, a busy route for both commuters and industrial traffic.
