Introduction
The young driver killed in a horrific single-vehicle crash in Western Sydney on Thursday night has been identified as 18-year-old Selina Bennetts Ly. The tragic incident has deeply affected her family and the community.

Incident Overview
Selina was driving with four passengers on Horsley Dr at Wetherill Park when she lost control of the car and crashed into a tree around 11.15pm. The crash occurred just 15 minutes after the curfew restricting P-plate drivers from carrying passengers late at night. The impact was so severe that parts of the car were found nearly 100m from the crash site.

Injuries and Hospitalization
Her two male passengers aged 16 and 17 and two female passengers aged 17 and 19 were hospitalized after the incident. One of the teen boys, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, sustained critical injuries. They were taken to Westmead and Liverpool hospitals for treatment.

Father’s Tribute
Selina’s father, Sok, spoke to The Daily Telegraph, expressing his devastation over losing his “little girl” who loved computer games, her pets, and spending time with him. “Selina is daddy’s little girl who never once has spoken back and always respects me,” he said. “I can say I’m really proud of her. I just wish I had the chance to.”

Road Safety Concerns
Russell White, CEO of the Australian Road Safety Foundation, emphasized the importance of driving according to conditions. “Road trauma is the biggest killer of Australian children,” he told 7NEWS. He noted a concerning increase in road trauma incidents, highlighting the need for vigilance and caution on the roads.

Ongoing Investigation
Sixteen people have lost their lives in just 13 days on NSW roads, prompting police to urge drivers to take extra care. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
