Incident Overview
A woman has died and four others have been injured after a vehicle collided with a CBH grain train at a level crossing in Redmond, a rural area on the outskirts of Albany, WA. The crash occurred around 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 16, 2025, at the Redmond-Hay River Road crossing. Emergency crews responded urgently to the scene, where the train reportedly pushed the vehicle 30–40 metres down the track. The woman remained trapped in the vehicle with critical injuries and later died. Three children and one adult male were injured but survived.

Injuries/Fatalities
- Fatality:
- A female passenger sustained critical injuries and died at the scene after being trapped in the vehicle.
- Other Injuries:
- Three children under 10 and one adult male suffered minor injuries and were taken to Albany Health Campus.
- Two train crew members were not physically injured but are being treated for psychological shock.
Emergency Response
Multiple emergency services including local police, three Albany Fire and Rescue vehicles, six St John Ambulance crews, and Major Crash detectives responded to the scene. The RAC rescue helicopter was dispatched from Perth but later stood down. The road and rail line remain closed while forensic teams investigate.
Investigation
WA Police Major Crash Investigation Unit is leading the inquiry. Focus areas include:
- Whether the vehicle failed to give way at the active or passive crossing
- Train speed, visibility, horn warning, and reaction time
- Eyewitness testimony and dashcam or mobile phone footage
Aurizon and CBH are cooperating fully with the investigation.

The incident has rocked the local Albany and Redmond communities. Level crossing safety has become a renewed point of discussion, particularly for rural road users and family transport routes. Support services are expected to be engaged for those involved, including children and train crew.
