Incident Overview

A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured after the ute she was driving left Barry Road at Nundle and went down a steep embankment on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. NSW Police described the incident as involving one ute and said it was investigating the circumstances.

Location and Time

Emergency services were called to Barry Road, Nundle, at about 9.15am. Police said the ute had left the road and crashed down a steep embankment; the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service described the location as south-east of Tamworth.

People and Vehicles Involved

Police said the ute’s 17-year-old driver was the person removed from the vehicle. No other vehicle or person was identified in the police account. 7NEWS reported that the ute’s tray had separated and was further up the slope.

Injuries and Fatalities

NSW Police said the teenager was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition. The helicopter service said she had suspected spinal injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and its critical-care medical team before the flight.

Emergency Response

According to police, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance, the State Emergency Service, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and Oxley Police District officers took part in the multi-agency operation. Police said the helicopter winched the girl from the crash site before taking her to hospital.

Police Investigation

NSW Police said an investigation had commenced into the crash. The public reports do not set out why the ute left the road, its direction of travel, or a final finding about cause or responsibility. Neither linked police release records a charge or later case outcome.
