Introduction:
A tragic car crash in North Lake, Perth, has claimed the life of aspiring young AFL footballer Nick Campo.

Crash Overview:
The fatal incident occurred around 11.40pm on Saturday on Farrington Rd in North Lake. Nick Campo, an 18-year-old Colts player for South Fremantle Football Club, was a rear passenger in a Toyota Hilux ute when it crashed and rolled. The vehicle then smashed into a black Jeep Patriot SUV that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Injuries and Casualties:
Two of Campo’s South Fremantle teammates, Tyler Rowe and Josh Jackson, were also in the ute and remain in hospital. The 17-year-old driver was also taken to hospital. The 26-year-old male driver and 27-year-old female passenger of the Jeep were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital with minor injuries.

Statements and Reactions:
South Fremantle CEO Cameron Britt expressed deep shock over the tragedy. “South Fremantle Football Club is deeply saddened by news of a car accident overnight involving several of our Colts players, resulting in the tragic death of South Fremantle footballer Nick Campo,” he said in a statement. “We are a club in deep shock, focused upon supporting our players, staff, and their families in these tragic circumstances. We ask that all involved are given the appropriate space and respect to grieve.”

Family’s Grief:
Campo’s parents said their lives have been “ripped apart.” “In the early hours of this morning our beautiful son Nick passed away after he was involved in a tragic car accident, our lives have been ripped apart, 18 years old, a future with so much hope taken away, we are praying others in the car involved will be ok,” they wrote on Facebook.

Campo’s Football Career:
Campo played four matches for the South Fremantle Colts this year, including most recently in last weekend’s loss to Claremont. In the win over East Perth in Round 13, Campo was among his side’s best with 26 disposals.

Investigation:
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the North Lake crash.

Conclusion:
This tragic North Lake crash serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerability of car passengers and the importance of road safety.
