On Wednesday evening, October 23, 2024, a tragic crash occurred on Robina Town Centre Drive in Robina, Gold Coast. A nine-year-old boy was killed when the e-bike he was riding on with his father collided with a car.
Details of the Crash
Around 6:11 PM, the boy and his 46-year-old father were riding an e-bike on the footpath along Robina Town Centre Drive when they were struck by a car. The impact of the collision caused both the boy and his father to sustain critical injuries.
Emergency Response and Tragic Outcome
Bystanders and an off-duty paramedic rushed to the scene and performed CPR on the young boy until emergency services arrived. Three paramedic crews, including a critical care unit and a doctor, attended the scene. Despite their best efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital on Thursday afternoon.
Injuries
The boy’s father sustained life-threatening head and arm injuries and remains in serious condition at Gold Coast University Hospital. The driver of the car, a 47-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
Investigation
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. No charges have been laid at this stage. It is understood that other members of the boy’s family, including his mother, were riding behind them and witnessed the crash.
