- The positioning and behaviour of the car at the point of impact
- The reason for the arrest of the second rider
- Witness reports and dashcam footage from nearby vehicles
Detectives are also examining whether any reckless riding preceded the incident.

The collision has caused significant delays along the Monash Freeway during weekend traffic. Motorists were urged to use detours via Ferntree Gully Road, Springvale Road, or exit earlier at Forster Road or Police Road. Emergency services also issued warnings about safe distance and visibility when overtaking or sharing roads with motorcycles.
