Introduction
A 16-year-old boy has been charged after an alleged crime spree across Melbourne’s Bayside area, culminating in a dramatic crash in Brighton. The incident left a mother-of-two shaken but miraculously with minor injuries.
Theft and Crash Overview
The incident began with the theft of a specially modified Mercedes from a home in Waterways, a vehicle designed for the owner who lives with cerebral palsy. Hours later, the stolen Mercedes, allegedly driven by the teen, crashed into a Volvo driven by a mother on her way to pick up her children from school. The Mercedes was reportedly speeding on the wrong side of the road at the time of the collision.
Injuries and Aftermath
The mother was taken to the hospital, sustaining minor injuries but understandably shaken by the ordeal. Her father expressed his relief that her injuries weren’t more severe, given the high-impact nature of the crash. The stolen Mercedes was extensively damaged and is considered a write-off.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
The 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle. He has been granted bail and will face court at a later date. Two other teenagers believed to be involved in the incident remain at large.
Community Impact and Call for Information
This incident has shocked the Bayside community, particularly due to the targeting of a vulnerable individual’s vehicle. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of reckless behavior and the importance of community vigilance.
