A 29-year-old man from Bowen has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run traffic crash that occurred in Bowen on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Bootooloo Road and Wheelers Lane at 4:42 am after a cyclist was found on the roadway by a passing motorist. The cyclist, a 69-year-old Bowen man, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following extensive investigations, police have now charged the driver of the vehicle that allegedly struck the cyclist.

The 29-year-old Bowen man has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm and leaving the scene of an incident without obtaining help. He is scheduled to appear before Bowen Magistrates Court on October 1st.
