Incident Overview
A 30-year-old mother and her 10-year-old daughter have died after a two-vehicle crash on Doomadgee Road in Far North Queensland on Friday morning, November 7, 2025.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 6:30 am after reports that a vehicle carrying the woman and four children had collided with another car and rolled.

Despite paramedics’ efforts, the driver — a woman from Cloncurry — died at the scene, while her 10-year-old daughter was transported to Doomadgee Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Three other children travelling in the car were also injured. One child remains in critical condition, while the other two sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at Doomadgee Hospital before being airlifted to Townsville Hospital for specialist care.

Police arrested a 28-year-old Doomadgee man, alleged to have been driving the other car involved in the crash. Officers confirmed he and the deceased woman were known to each other, and that both were also known to police.

A crime scene has been declared, and investigations are being conducted by forensic and homicide detectives.

    • Two young children — sustained non-life-threatening injuries; treated locally and transported for further care.

Emergency Response

Police Investigation
The Forensic Crash Unit, with assistance from Homicide and Major Crime detectives, is investigating the circumstances of the crash. Areas of inquiry include:

  • The movements of both vehicles before impact and possible pursuit or domestic factors.
  • Eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage from Doomadgee Road and surrounding properties.
  • Interviews with community members who rendered assistance before emergency services arrived.

Police confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the Doomadgee community.

Community Impact
The tragedy has deeply affected the Doomadgee Aboriginal community, prompting the cancellation of the Dumaji Festival of Arts and Culture and temporary business closures.

The Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council expressed condolences to the victims’ families, posting:

“We pay our respects and pass our condolences onto all the families and extended families that lost loved ones this morning.”

Shops, including the local bakery and council offices, closed at noon on Friday as the community entered Sorry Business — a period of mourning and cultural observance. Residents have been asked to avoid the highway while investigations continue.

Counselling and support services are being offered to residents, first responders, and extended family members.
