Police are appealing for public assistance after a woman was seriously injured during a hit and run traffic crash in Leichhardt on Sunday, May 7.

Initial investigations indicate just after 7pm, a 32-year-old Leichhardt woman was crossing at the traffic lights on the Toongarra and Samford Road intersection when she was struck by a motorbike.

The rider, who was knocked from the bike, drove away from the scene along Toongarra Road towards the city without offering assistance to the woman.

She was transported to Ipswich Hospital with serious head and leg injuries.

The bike, an orange-white off-road motorcycle, was driving erratically and sped through a red light on Toongarra Road prior to the collision.

Anyone who recognises the rider or the motorbike is urged to immediately contact police.

Anonymous reports can be made.

Witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam vision around the time of the incident are also urged to come forward.
