Incident Overview
A senior firefighter was seriously injured when a fire truck crashed into a tree on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road at Mundoolun, south of Brisbane. The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 am on Monday, July 1, 2025. Station Officer Mitchell Rogers, a 15-year veteran of the Queensland Fire Department, was driving the vehicle when it veered off the road and collided with a tree. He was the sole occupant of the truck and became trapped inside the wreckage before being rescued by colleagues and emergency services.

    • Station Officer Mitchell Rogers sustained serious lower limb injuries and was initially in a life-threatening condition. He was later stabilised at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Emergency Response
Colleagues from the Queensland Fire Department were among the first to respond, cutting Rogers free from the vehicle. Queensland Ambulance Service, including a High Acuity Response Unit, treated the man at the scene before transporting him to Princess Alexandra Hospital. Beaudesert Beenleigh Road was closed for several hours following the crash.

Investigation
Police and forensic crash investigators are examining:

  • The cause of the vehicle veering off-road
  • Potential contributing factors, including adverse weather and road conditions
  • The mechanical condition of the fire truck and driver status

Wet weather is being considered a possible factor in the crash.
