Incident Overview
A fatal three-vehicle crash occurred on the Sturt Highway at Tarcutta, located about 50km north-east of Wagga Wagga, on Friday, 1 August 2025. The crash resulted in one death and multiple hospitalisations.

- 31-year-old male truck driver – minor rib injuries
- Male passenger (30s) in same truck – leg and back injuries, serious but stable condition
- 25-year-old male truck driver of second B-double – minor hand injuries
Crash Description
Emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway at Tarcutta after reports of a serious crash involving two trucks and an SUV. The SUV driver was found trapped and died at the scene. The crash caused a diesel leak and required significant response efforts from Fire and Rescue NSW.
Road and Traffic Impacts
- Sturt Highway was closed in both directions between Tumbarumba Road and the Hume Highway for over five hours
Investigation
NSW Police, with assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit, are investigating the incident. Both truck drivers have undergone mandatory testing. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
