An 18-year-old man has been charged in relation to a fatal traffic crash at Sunnybank last night.

It will be alleged at approximately 11.20pm, a white Volkswagen Golf has travelled through a red traffic signal on Mains Road near Turton Street and struck a pedestrian.

The 25-year-old local man suffered critical injuries and was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old Calamvale man, was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

His bail has been refused and he is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow, April 3.

It will be alleged the vehicle had left a car gathering at a shopping centre carpark at the intersection of Mains Road and McCullough Street.

Anyone who attended this location who has information or relevant footage of the white Volkswagen Golf is asked to contact police.

Police also appeal for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with dashcam footage in the area at the time, to come forward.
