A man has been charged following a fatal vehicle and pedestrian incident in Northgate this morning.

Around 5.30am, police were called to Melton Road near Dethridge Street, Northgate, to reports a man was trapped under a car.

A 73-year-old Northgate man, the pedestrian, died at the scene.

23-year-old Nundah man, the driver and soul occupant of the vehicle, has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

He will appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on March 19.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
