The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a fatal two-vehicle traffic crash at Moranbah, west of Mackay, this morning, August 27.

Initial investigations indicate at around 9.40am, a prime mover truck was travelling southbound along Moranbah Access Road, near Cunningham Way, before it crashed with a road train truck travelling northbound.  

The driver of the prime mover, a 46-year-old Moranbah man, was declared deceased at the scene.

The road train driver, a 56-year-old Southbrook man, was taken to Moranbah Hospital before being transported to Mackay Base Hospital with serious injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have relevant dashcam/CCTV vision to come forward.
