A 19-year-old Welcome Creek woman has died following a traffic crash in Maryborough yesterday (February 19).

Initial investigations indicate a white Ford Falcon sedan was travelling along Albert Street around 8.45am when it struck a power pole.

The male driver fled the scene on foot.

The passenger, the 19-year-old woman, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to hospital.

She passed away from her injuries at hospital today (February 20).

Police are appealing for the driver to come forward and contact police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for witnesses or those with dashcam vision of the crash to come forward.
