A man has died following a single vehicle crash in Mareeba this afternoon.

Preliminary information indicates around 12.30pm a black 2001 Ford Mustang was travelling in a south-westerly direction along the Kennedy Highway around 500 metres west of Davies Creek Road when it left the road and rolled.

A passing motorist came across the crash and raised the alarm, providing first aid to the man.

The driver and sole occupant of the mustang, a 63-year-old Karabah (New South Wales) man died at the scene from his injuries.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
