A man has died in a single vehicle traffic crash in Basalt, early this morning.

Around 3.30am, the Land Rover utility crashed 80km north of Charters Towers on Gregory Developmental Road.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Wulguru man, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
