Fatal motorcycle crash, northern Cape York Peninsula (near Bamaga)

What happened

Incident Overview

On Thursday, 22 September 2022, a 32-year-old New South Wales man died after his motorcycle struck a wallaby on Narau Beach Road, near the intersection with Somerset Road, in the northern peninsula area of Cape York, Queensland. The rider lost control, left the roadway, and collided heavily with a tree. Despite immediate CPR provided by fellow riders in the group, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Emergency services attended and confirmed the fatality at approximately 1:15pm local time. Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit personnel attended the scene to conduct a full investigation.

Emergency Response

Emergency services attended the scene and provided immediate assistance. Fellow motorcycle riders in the group administered CPR for an extended period before emergency personnel arrived and confirmed the rider’s death at the scene.

Investigation
