Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash at New Beith this afternoon, involving a 15-year-old boy.

At 2.30pm the boy was the sole rider of a trail bike travelling east along New Beith Road, when he failed to negotiate a sweeping bend, leaving the road and crashing into a tree.

Another rider, who was riding nearby, raised the alarm however, emergency services could not revive the 15-year-old.

Investigations suggest a utility was seen driving near or in-between the two dirt bikes prior to the incident.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
