Incident Overview
A 30-year-old woman died and a 22-year-old motorcycle rider was seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision at El Arish on Friday, 3 July 2026.
Location and Time
The collision occurred in the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway near Jones Road at about 1.20pm.
Reported Sequence
Initial police information indicated that a utility struck the rear of a motorcycle as it slowed near roadworks, pushing the motorcycle into a second utility in front.
Fatality and Injuries
The 30-year-old pillion passenger was declared deceased at the scene. The 22-year-old rider was airlifted to Townsville University Hospital and was later reported to be in a serious but stable condition. The utility drivers were not physically injured.
Police Investigation
Investigators believe another southbound vehicle travelling behind a white van also took evasive action at the scene.
